Ponderings…
August7
As David Ruffin once sang… Questions Questions Running Through My Mind…
- Should I bother with a TV
- Will I be really nervous taking the boat out for the first time
- Will my Daughter be a better helmsman than I
- Will my hopes for ‘cleaner’ living be realised in respect of a decent diet and will my Daughter start eating vegetables LOL
- Will I find a comparable hairdresser to that which I have enjoyed over the last 5 years
Shallow ponderings aren’t they… but ones that fill my head at present as I become happily consumed with ‘boaty’ thoughts ahead of my new life beginning very shortly.
I’ll also need to source a new employer as I’m not prepared to commute and will not miss my current job anyway. Having been there for almost 11 years I’m ready to move on to new expieriences and responsibilities.
I’d like to extend positive karma to Debbie who writes the blog of Ticketyboo. Be strong and good luck with your new life. :)
Everyone sing with me…. “It’s a whole new world” :D

Hi Soulgirl, in answer to your ponderings, its personal choice whether you have a TV but it is really nice to cosy down on a winters night when the wind is howling around the boat and the rain is pitter pattering on the roof, and watch a dvd.
Will you be nervous? God yes! but you will be so proud sailing your own boat your nervousness will dissapear and you will be buzzing with excitement!
Will your daughter be a better helmsman than you? Probably! (sorry) Youngsters just seem to be more relaxed and pick it up quicker! As for eating more greens, lol!
These ponderings are really useful and will make the time you have to wait more bearable!
A liveaboard once said to me, ” wait till you are living on your boat, you will think you have died and gone to heaven”. I thought that was a strange thing to say but once I had moved on I knew exactly what they meant, as you will!
I accept the Karma you have kindly sent me, I am not one for crying in my potnoodle thinking what might have been, its onwards and upwards!
Thankyou.
Debbie.
Thanks for the positivity Debbie :D
I’ll be quite pleased if Lottie’s a better helmsman; I can then relax! LOL.
Don’t worry too much about negative comments – like any sphere, canals have sociopaths who sit at home with their computers wanting to make waves, and then those of us who are too busy having fun with our boats. ;-) It’s generally a very pleasant social experience.
For ‘cleaner’ living the move to a boat is a perfect new start – you’ll find http://www.lilo.org.uk/ a useful resource, and the wider site http://www.lowimpact.org/. you may be in a marina now, but when out and about I find it difficult to reconcile running a boat full of gadgets and a generator to power them when surrounded by the natural world.
Having said that, yes, I have a very small television on my boat, but it’s not a major feature. Perhaps look in a charity shop for a tiny cheap black and white – the 5″ screen ones go for very little – if you want to watch something, you can, but you’ll find the world outside is much more exciting. ;-)
good luck with your new life;
Simon
Lovely comments Simon, thank you!
When I leave the Marina the last thing on my mind will be gadgets… I’ll be too busy photographing and enjoying my new surroundings. The gadgetry is for when I’m hooked up to the mains. That’s what people couldn’t understand and treated me with contempt for wanting nice stuff LOL.
I’m not too worried about the price of a TV, just whether I wanted one or not… like you say, the world outside is far more interesting :)
If you see me ‘on the cut’ be sure to say hi and thanks for the links, I’ll check them out.
