Ice Rinks & Carvery’s

December20

It was just as cold when we awoke this morning.  There was a difference though.  It was light and I’d managed to sleep in til 9am!  If you discount me having to get up at 5.30am to find the cat in the sink having a pee 8O

Bless him though, at least he had the forethought to do it down the plug hole!

So, a disinfected sink and a shower later we headed off into another local Town, Trowbridge, in search of warm jogging bottoms.  I’ve felt quite constricted in tight jeans doing the jobs on and around the boat so thought jogging bottoms would be the perfect solution.  Bingo!  I was right.

Partook in a carvery at the Beef & Barge.  Not as nice as last week.  No honey glazed parsnips! :?

I also took the opportunity stock up on electric tokens and to re-fill the water tank just in case the marina shuts off the water due to the temperatures.

A young lady called out the Fire Brigade to her boat this morning; her carbon monoxide alarm had gone off and she felt groggy.  They arrived and gave her advice about cleaning her fire/flue and then left.  I saw the very same Firemen at the local supermarket collecting for their Benevolent fund so I popped a tenner in and winked saying ‘well, I might need you someday’ before skipping off in my mink coat – well, it’s certainly fur coat weather isn’t it!  Don’t worry!  I’m recycling… it’s a 1930′s coat!

Oh, and Kate!  I’ve hung my Disco Balls!  They look BRILLIANT :D

TV On Ice!

December19

TV On IceThis may look like a modern layered look wallpaper, or a cake!  But as many canal boaters will know, it’s the inside of my windows.  Yes, this morning I awoke to a minus 5 temperature with thick ice across the top of the marina.  It was beautiful! :D

Thanks to a Tiger Tim log I had a roaring fire within 10 mins just in time to check my emails and await the arrival of Martyn of  TravelSat!

Yes, I paid more than I could have buying things separately from the internet trawling through google.  What I did pay for though was for a man to visit and install expertly a whole boat satellite system including dual TV’s with separate satellite boxes.  No fuss, no mucking about, installed in a couple of hours by a really nice guy who knew his stuff.  So, before you start with the negative shit, I KNOW you can do it cheaper yourself.  However, I do not possess the knowhow and was more than happy to pay a professional – that’s how people make business’ you know ;)

TV On IceSo thank you Martyn… we’re sat here now enjoying the fruits of your labour and looking forward to surfing the 100′s of channels later :D

No subscription needed with freesat!  The TV’s also come with inbuilt freeview and DVD players.  The two sat boxes mean we can watch different channels in both rooms.

TV On IceMy Sister and her Husband came to visit so I treated them to lunch at the Beef & Barge.  She had the toad in the hole and I’ll tell you what, it looked fucking gorgeous!  I’ll try that next week :)

At least my Son had to remove himself from his sleeping bag haha.

There, another day on the dreamy calm canals with laughter, warm clothes and roaring log fires :)

Today…

December18

… I dropped my keys in the canal! :D

They fell out of my pocket whilst I was wrestling with a gas bottle that only just fits in the hole! Why did they make a gas bottle hold hole the same fookin’ size as a gas bottle? Anyway, no matter… fished out the almost floating keys and won my war with the cylinder. All is calm :D

Tomorrow the TV Satellite man comes… YIPEEEE
