Canal Planner
Not that I’ll be going anywhere in the imminent future but I’ve pushed the boat out (to coin a phrase) and purchased a bit of software! Canal Planner looks excellent. Enough photo’s to keep me interested amongst the other technical information it presents (well, I’m a girl!) and it plots your course showing every possible place of interest, pump out station and pub. Not forgetting turning areas if you want to turn back at any point.
It’s only £27.50 for the downloaded version too. Excellent value believe me. I know! You wouldn’t believe the hours that go into even the most basic of computer programs.
For me, the photographs will be invaluable in confirming my whereabouts. I’m crap with geography and knowing where I am so now I’ve got pictures to tell me
It’s not reliant on an internet connection to run either.
I just wanted to add a PS to my Fire Starter blog from yesterday. I bought a few bags of smokeless fuel – apart from their round shape being irritating due to them rolling off other lumps they didn’t flame and were hard to keep lit. On replenishing my coal supply I ended up buying normal house coal. Half the price and boy, does it burn beautifully! A log sits on top of the flaming goodness ensuring the log burns too instead of smouldering in the centre needing constant turning otherwise you end up with a wood bridge over the reddened coals. I may well use more fuel this way but I don’t much care. I’ve got a proper fire now
Still waiting for my Gas man to return! He can’t be desperate for my cash because he’s not even been paid for the main work yet. Also waiting for the electrician to return with my fabulous lights and he’s also repacking my stern gland that leaks ever so slightly. I’ll be more restful knowing that’s done. I keep having recurring nightmares about sinking!
Have a song about ice from my favourite musical genre – Northern Soul!
