Canals & Headless Snowmen!
Another ‘school’s out’ yesterday found Lottie and I walking along the K&A again but in the opposite direction. Not before we hit the Town to partake in a little retail therapy though.
Got a fabulous bargain in Monsoon… a chunky navy knit down from £110 to £30! Oh, and a pair of funky Wellington boots each and also a pair of waterproof and windproof gloves each. We did have soft fluffy warm woolly gloves up until last night when I popped them on the stove to dry out… and forgot they were there
Anyhow, waterproof ones mean that I wont lose them to the harsh and cruel death of the ‘stove top’
So, the opposite direction of the K&A was just as serene and beautiful as yesterdays excursion. More liveaboards and dinky ‘one man’ narrow boats. An elderly man was trying to muster bravery to walk down his icy gangplank with a 5 gallon can of something in his hand.
We offered him assistance and his friend poked his head out of the door to tell us he’d be ok. I didn’t fancy trying to fish someone out of the canal in these freezing conditions. I bet someone would only last around 4 minutes before succumbing to the icy grave due to hypothermia.
We also met the owner of a boat called Pirate Princess. A personable and cheery young lady who allowed us to photograph her snowy work of art placed on the fore of her boat. Thank you :-)
We turned off the Towpath to visit the local supermarket and bought Ice Lollies of all things! We were quite in need of fruity rehydration walking in sweaty wellies and gloves fit for a piste in the French Alps let alone a Towpath in Wiltshire!
The walk back to the boat was via the road – well, a wide grassy area abutting the road where we stumbled across a beheaded snowman. 10 minutes playing and laughing found us trudge the sludge the short distance left that we had.
On with the stove and cracked open a nice bottle of Chartreuse de Bonpas Reserve 2008 – mellow and warming – just right for a cold Winter’s evening.
No school today either so we’ll have to find something else exciting to do. I could get used to this no working lark but alas, I’ll be employed again from February onwards… I hope :)
